FNESC Science First Peoples 5-9

This workshop shares the FNESC Science First Peoples 5-9 Teacher Resource Guide, which includes units focussed on Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Plants and Connection to Place, Power from the Land, Bears and Body Systems, Climate Change, Shaking and Flooding, Interconnectedness of the Spheres, and Ocean Connections. Additional information on developing a shared knowledge celebration of inquiry learning, and developing locally-based resources is included. Although written for grades 5-9, the guide includes materials which could easily be adapted for younger or older students. Participants will receive a copy of the resource guide. This workshop is supported by the first Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC).

    Heidi Wood is a Curriculum and Instruction Helping Teacher with Aboriginal Learning in the Surrey School District. She has more than 18 years of classroom experience with a focus on resource development using First Peoples TEKW.  In addition to collaborating on resource development with the first Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC), Heidi has contributed to the BC Science and Inquiring Minds resources.
